Cookie Policy

1. About cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use a deliberate set — some are essential to the service, and the rest are used only with your consent. We also measure traffic in a way that uses no cookies at all, which is described in section 3.
2. Cookies we use
Essential (always on)
- Authentication session — keeps you securely signed in as you move between the site and the app. Set by our authentication provider (Supabase) and scoped to footballfinancialmodel.com and its subdomains, so that one sign-in carries across both the site and the app. It is strictly necessary, and signing in is not possible without it.
- Consent preference — remembers your cookie choice so we don’t ask again on every visit.
- Sign-in verification — set while you are signing in, so we can confirm that the sign-in completing in your browser is the one that started there. It applies whether you sign in with a password or with Google or LinkedIn, and is strictly necessary.
Analytics and advertising — only if you accept
If you accept, we set cookies for two purposes. The first is understanding how the site is used, through PostHog, our analytics provider. The second is measuring whether our advertising reaches the right people and whether it works, using LinkedIn’s advertising tag.
Most of these are set by LinkedIn on LinkedIn’s own domain rather than ours, which means we cannot read them and cannot delete them — only LinkedIn and your browser can. They last from a few minutes to about a year, depending on their purpose. One is set on this site’s own domain: if you arrive here from one of our LinkedIn advertisements, it records that fact so we can tell which advertising leads people to sign up.
If you choose essential cookies only, none of this is set. LinkedIn’s code is never downloaded at all — it is not loaded and then switched off.
To change your mind later, write to privacy@footballfinancialmodel.com. If you have an account, you can also change it in your account settings, under Preferences.
3. Measurement that uses no cookies
Separately from the cookies above, we measure aggregate traffic and page performance using Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. We want to be straightforward about this, because it runs whether or not you accept cookies:
- It stores nothing on your device — no cookie, no local storage, no persistent identifier of any kind.
- It does not follow you across other websites, and cannot be used to build a profile of you.
- It records the page visited, roughly where in the world the request came from, and how quickly the page loaded — as counts, not as a record about a person.
We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding whether our own site works and is being read. If you would prefer we did not measure your visits this way, email privacy@footballfinancialmodel.com and we will honour it.
We also use Sentry to record technical errors so we can fix them. It sets no cookies and is not mentioned in the sections above for that reason; it is covered in our Privacy Policy.
4. Managing your choice
You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner shown on your first visit. If you hold an account, you can change your choice at any time from within the app, at Settings → Preferences → Usage analytics, which records the same preference and so applies to the site and the app together. You can also write to privacy@footballfinancialmodel.com and we will change it for you. Declining leaves only the essential cookies above in place, and the cookieless measurement in section 3 continues. You can also control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in.
5. Changes
We may update this policy as our use of cookies evolves; the “last updated” date reflects the current version.
